Margaret Island is a small island (*gasp* who would’ve thought) that lies between Buda and Pest. You can access it by a bridge which I’ve circled on the map down below.

Just before crossing the bridge, my mother and I had a very close encounter with death. Not even two seconds after passing a building, the marble on it’s 6-storey roof broke and fell onto the ground… exactly where we had been standing.

Being a young individual, I never really think about how death may be right around the corner. I tend to associate death with old age, disease, and sickness. Although I know that death may occur without any warning, I never imagine it as so. We truly need to live our lives to the fullest. We need to experience and appreciate what life has to offer and we should make the most out of it. Because who knows, maybe tomorrow there will be a shooting that occurs, maybe we will be involved in an accident, or maybe a piece of marble roofing will fall on our heads. We don’t know when our time will end, so why not make the most out of it while we’re still here?
Now – back to Margaret Island:
For those who want to experience some nature and walk around in a relaxing environment, I would definitely recommend this place. There are a few attractions on this island, but even if you don’t follow a map, you will undoubtedly stumble upon them.
The first thing you’ll come across is the Music Fountain. The water spectacle at the fountain was SERIOUSLY SO COOL. Each time music would play, the water would dance to it. I don’t really want to admit this, but I maaaay have teared up a little bit. There was one point where the water was matched with old-time Disney songs and it reminded me of my childhood.
Next stop on Margaret Island: A FREAKING PET ZOO
Yes. You heard that right – ANIMAAAALS!
This island would have been a prime picnic destination – if I had had one more day in Budapest, I would’ve have definitely made sandwiches, grabbed some fruit, and bought some pastries and would’ve came here for a picnic.
And last, but not least, we obviously had to have this delicacy:
