For those who were hoping for another Europe post right now…
Currently I’m in Victoria for a psychology conference (CPA) and I wanted to document it as it occurred. At this very moment, as I write this blog post, I’m sitting in a small coffee shop that I just discovered called Pour (at least, I think that’s what it’s called? Because that’s what’s on my coffee cup… sooooo).
I would have been in my hotel by this point, but when I got there (8:30am) they told me that my room wouldn’t be available until 2pm. yaaaay….
Pro: I wouldn’t have found this cute coffee place if that had not happened.
Con: It started raining 1 hour ago and has yet to stop – I am wearing a dress and will be soaked by the time I return to my hotel.
Pro: Rain is fun to walk in.
Con: I will look like a drowned rat.
Pro: If someone mistakes me for a rat, maybe they’ll give me cheese.
Con: If someone mistakes me for a rat, they may try to kill me.
Pro: If I’m dead then I can’t present at the conference.
Con: If I’m dead then I can’t present at the conference.
Aaaaand that’s where I’m at with my thoughts right now as I eat a ginger cookie and sip my mocha.
I’m excited that I get to present a poster at this conference, but I’m also quite nervous. Not just because I still need to practice what I want to say (which I would have been doing if my hotel room had been available), but because A) I’m not familiar with the layout of the conference centre so I’ll be running around like a madman trying to find the locations I’m supposed to be at, B) being in a place full of people sometimes gives me anxiety, and C) I worry that some super smart and incredibly genius professor or researcher will come ask me questions that I won’t be able to answer and they’ll judge me with that look judgy-genius people usually give.
You know that look.
Yup, that one.
The one where they look down at you and sort of raise one of their eyebrows, then grunt a little, and maybe say something along the lines of ‘hmm’ and then walk away.
So we’ll just have to wait and see what happens I guess. The conference officially starts tomorrow morning and I’ll be presenting my poster at 10:30am! Fingers crossed all goes well!
